Tax and Immigration Risk for International Business Travelers

Updated: Oct 10, 2022

A large IT company operating in 10 countries thought it was managing international personnel correctly and thought it had no expatriates on assignments. But, after PZI reviewed the company’s international business travelers, it was found that eight individuals had spent a significant amount of time in other countries, costing the company $300,000 USD in taxes for the individuals.

An additional risk identified, was the company had not protected the employees from immigration control, endangering them to being jailed for illegally performing services in the country. PZI brought this report to the executive leadership, who implemented new internal control procedures around international travel.
